I am currently a candidate for the Student Visionary of the Year program with the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. Student Visionaries is a seven-week-long campaign that works to raise money for LLS’s mission of curing cancer and improving the quality of life for cancer patients and their families. I was fortunate enough to be a team member for one of my peer’s campaigns, which taught me several skills, such as organization, fundraising, and leadership. As someone who is heavily involved in service, this experience made me passionate to lead a team and run my own campaign for a cause I am very passionate about. As an advocate for social equality and justice, I believe that through my campaign, I can ensure that patients receive equal treatment and support regardless of race, gender, class, or ability. I aim to raise $100,000 to educate and support cancer patients and their families. As someone who has lost family members to cancer, I know firsthand how difficult receiving a cancer diagnosis is. I have seen the effects of cancer on not only patients but also on my family. I have lost 3 out of 4 of my grandparents to different forms of cancer, and I know how confusing it can be. My hope is that with your support, you can help to ensure that patients and their families can navigate all of the information that comes with receiving a cancer diagnosis.
